Account & Data Deletion
This page explains how to delete your Areye account and what happens to your data. It applies to the Areye passenger app, the Areye driver app, and Areye Business.
Delete your account from the app
- Open the Areye app and sign in.
- Go to Account (bottom navigation) → Settings.
- Tap Delete account and confirm.
Your account is deactivated immediately and you are signed out on all devices.
Request deletion by email
If you cannot access the app, email support@areye.app from the email address on your account, or with the phone number you registered, and ask us to delete your account. We verify ownership before acting and complete the request within 30 days.
What is deleted
- Your name, email address, phone number and profile photo
- Your saved places and address history
- Your device identifiers and push notification tokens
- Your saved payment cards and their gateway tokens
- Your trip location data (pickup and drop-off points, routes) and in-app messages
What is retained, and why
Some records cannot be deleted immediately because the law requires us to keep them:
- Financial and tax records (trip fares, invoices, receipts, driver earnings and payouts) are retained for 7 years to meet Botswana and South African tax and accounting obligations. These are kept in a de-identified form wherever the law allows.
- Safety and dispute records (incident reports, SOS events, fraud investigations, and any trip that is the subject of an open legal claim) are retained until the matter is resolved.
- Wallet balances must be withdrawn or forfeited before deletion completes. If your wallet holds funds, contact us first so the balance can be paid out to you.
Once the retention periods above expire, the remaining records are permanently deleted.
Drivers
If you drive with Areye, deletion also removes your vehicle details and uploaded documents (licence, permit, insurance), subject to the safety and financial retention periods described above. Any outstanding rental, rent-to-own, or commission balance must be settled before the account can be closed.
